‘Survival RTS’ Conan Unconquered Launches on May 30th for PC
Funcom announced the release date of Conan Unconquered, the first real-time strategy game set in the Conan universe. The game will be out for PC on May 30th; pre-orders are now available and players can pick between a Standard Edition priced at $29.99 and a Deluxe Edition priced at $39.99. The latter includes Exclusive DLC: Kalanthes (a spell-casting hero unit), Exclusive DLC: King Conan hero unit, the game’s Soundtrack and an original Conan Unconquered eBook.
Conan Unconquered is being developed by the strategy genre veterans at Petroglyph Games, who’ve worked on the Command & Conquer games (the originals and now the remasters, too), on Star Wars: Empire at War, on Grey Goo and on Forged Battalion.
Petroglyph CEO Chuck Kroegel said:
Conan Unconquered is not your typical RTS. We like to call it a survival RTS, where instead of building a base and then moving out to attack your opponent, you will instead have to build a base that is constantly being attacked by invading enemy forces that grow more ruthless and more difficult over time. We’re also very excited about our multiplayer co-op, allowing players to build a base together and amass an army as they work together to fight off the hordes. Working together in an RTS is incredibly rewarding and we want to bring that experience to the forefront.
Here’s more official info on the title alongside the first gameplay footage provided by Petroglyph.
Conan Unconquered is a survival RTS set in the barbaric world of Conan the Barbarian where you must build your stronghold and assemble an unconquerable army to survive the savage hordes of Hyboria. Wave after wave of increasingly more difficult enemies will rush at your gates and you will need to manage resources, research new technologies to advance your defenses, and recruit an ever-growing army if you are to save survive utter destruction.
You can choose to play the game entirely alone in single-player, but Conan Unconquered can also be enjoyed in full two-player co-op allowing for a truly unique, shared multiplayer experience. Players share a base where both can freely construct new buildings and amass an army to reach their common goal.
The enemy hordes will keep coming at you and how long you can resist the invasion depends entirely on your ability to build your stronghold and lead your army. Gameplay is real-time, but you can also pause at any time to issue commands and start construction of new buildings. Battles will be bloody and savage with players having to deal with anything from fires raging through their stronghold to piles of corpses spreading death and disease.
