Although its release was marred by the layoffs at Ubisoft Barcelona, the team responsible for the game's underwater stages and water tech, among other things, there's no denying that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is already a smashing success, selling over 2 million copies on the first day of availability. As such, it's not surprising to learn that Ubisoft has some post launch plans for the game, but what is surprising is that they will follow the example set by Crimson Desert, ditching a set roadmap for community feedback.
"We're working on New Game Plus right now. It's one of the first things, and partly because Assassin's Creed Shadows has already built their version. It's considered a low-risk feature for us, it's just such a natural thing," confirmed Game Director Richard Knight in a new interview with JorRaptor ahead of the launch of the 1.0.4 patch.
New Game Plus isn't the only new feature coming to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, as the team is also working on a feature to hide the Blowpipe. "One of our most senior programmers is working on it right now. I have a feeling it's coming soon," Knight said.
While no other new feature was confirmed during the interview, the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced game director did reveal some interesting tidbits that suggest how Pearl Abyss may indeed have set a standard for post-launch support of single-player open-world games.
According to Richard Knight, there's no roadmap for the game, as the team is keeping a "loose schedule" and will consider making additions based on community feedback, just like the South Korean studio is doing for Crimson Desert. One of these additions could be the Hidden Blade combat seen in the original.
"We're listening to the community. We're interested in what people want the most. During development, we prioritized core combat because we needed to nail that. Given the cost to reinvent the feature and rebuild it from the ground up with today's characters and rigs and animation and cloth sim and all this, there's just a lot more that goes into it. So it was just lower priority for us. But, you know, we're definitely listening on it."
As Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced doesn't have the extensive sandbox features Crimson Desert does, nor does Ubisoft have the MMO background that Pearl Abyss has, there's little chance that the remake of the fourth entry in the series will get a steady stream of new features. Still, it's great hearing that Ubisoft is listening to the community to improve a solid game that definitely deserves the success it's been having.
