One of the most compelling things about Xiaomi’s latest flagship is its price. Starting at approximately $421, it is the cheapest smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 right now. The phone also comes with a 6.21-inch AMOLED display and is the first smartphone from the manufacturer to sport that notched AMOLED panel. The phone is also shipped with a 3,400mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 4.0+ and is running Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10 on top.

It has a dual camera system on the back, with the primary camera being a 12MP shooter with an aperture of F/1.8 while the second camera is 12MP with an aperture of F/2.4. The selfie camera is 20MP and features software-enhanced AI to produce better imaging and video results. Additionally, it also has a glass and metal body, with the glass back showing off a ‘water drop arc’ design.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 is also the first smartphone to have a dual-frequency GPS and dual-SIM combo support. The 3.5mm audio jack has sadly been removed but you do get a Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter with the bundle. The Mi 8 is also the first smartphone to come with Infrared Face Unlock, which is an advanced facial recognition feature which unlocks the phone.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 will also be released in other markets including India, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Vietnam, Russia, and France soon and looking at its price tag, it should become a success in the aforementioned markets.
