Xiaomi Mi 8 Sold Out in Just 37 Seconds of Its Release – More Flash Sales to Follow Because of Initial Success
The Xiaomi Mi 8 was unveiled on May 31 at a launch event in China and it did not take long for the smartphone to go on sale in China today. A Xiaomi official has revealed that the Mi 8 was an unprecedented success as it managed to sell out within just 37 seconds of its release.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Success Did Not Reveal How Many Units Were Sold but Initial Response Shows Next Flash Sale Will Take Place Next Week
Unfortunately, the official did not reveal the number of units that were sold. The next flash sale is scheduled on June 12 at 10 AM local time. Three variants of the phone were introduced during the official unveiling. The Xiaomi Mi 8 does not feature an expandable storage slot, but is available in the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, 6GB + 128GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 256GB storage variants.
One of the most compelling things about Xiaomi’s latest flagship is its price. Starting at approximately $421, it is the cheapest smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 right now. The phone also comes with a 6.21-inch AMOLED display and is the first smartphone from the manufacturer to sport that notched AMOLED panel. The phone is also shipped with a 3,400mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 4.0+ and is running Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10 on top.
It has a dual camera system on the back, with the primary camera being a 12MP shooter with an aperture of F/1.8 while the second camera is 12MP with an aperture of F/2.4. The selfie camera is 20MP and features software-enhanced AI to produce better imaging and video results. Additionally, it also has a glass and metal body, with the glass back showing off a ‘water drop arc’ design.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 is also the first smartphone to have a dual-frequency GPS and dual-SIM combo support. The 3.5mm audio jack has sadly been removed but you do get a Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter with the bundle. The Mi 8 is also the first smartphone to come with Infrared Face Unlock, which is an advanced facial recognition feature which unlocks the phone.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 will also be released in other markets including India, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Vietnam, Russia, and France soon and looking at its price tag, it should become a success in the aforementioned markets.
