While the operating system is being tested and used on the newly released devices, Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Phone 8 users are still waiting for its release on their smartphone. The report also shares a list of devices that will receive the update initially.
Windows 10 Mobile rollout may begin March 17
There’s no official word on the availability of Windows 10 Mobile for older devices, running on Windows Phone 8.1. A new report from WindowsBlogItalia claims that the company will start the rollout of its new mobile operating system from March 17th. The report lists the following devices which will be eligible for the OS update in the first wave:
- Lumia 1520
- Lumia 930
- Lumia 830
- Lumia 640
- Lumia 640 XL
- Lumia 638
- Lumia 636
- Lumia 535
Another report from Italy was received earlier this month, when Vodafone Italy said that it would start the roll out from March 7. The rollout, as we know, didn’t happen.
Microsoft has definitely ramped up the number of testing builds that it releases to the Windows Insider program. Insiders in the Slow, Release and even Fast rings have been asked recently to test the non-Redstone updates for the upgrade process and stability. Looking at this, the Windows 10 Mobile rollout for Windows Phone 8.1 does seem imminent, but just how soon this “soon” will come, we can only wait and see.
We will keep you updated as we hear more about Microsoft’s rumored or official plans about Windows 10 Mobile rollout.
