Following the release of Resident Evil VII Biohazard, the survival-horror series by CAPCOM has entered a new golden age which has culminated this year with Resident Evil Requiem on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. A few months back, CAPCOM confirmed a story expansion is in the works, and it is reportedly going to be as substantial as Resident Evil 4 remake’s Separate Ways expansion, signaling the beginning of a new strategy for the Japanese publisher.
Bigger Story Expansions To Fill The Gaps Between Major Titles
"I want to share something I heard which I think is really interesting, Resident Evil related," said known insider Dusk Golem on X. "CAPCOM is investing into doing more lengthy story DLC in the future of RE, of the length & ambition as Separate Ways/Shadow of Rose, for both Requiem & future RE titles."
There seems to be a reason for this new approach. "CAPCOM’s had an issue in recent years in the RE Engine era with side games, like Revelations, the Chronicles, or Survivor games," the insider said. "Apparently this is something of a temporary solution CAPCOM is employing, investing in longer story DLCs for their RE games which work as smaller, more experimental "side stories" for the franchise. It also will help fill their schedule of releases in-between the bigger RE games."
As a result of this new ambitious approach, the Resident Evil Requiem story expansion, whose ambitious nature is a direct result of CAPCOM listening to post-release feedback, will likely be released after Resident Evil Veronica drops.
All Hands on Deck To Launch Resident Evil Veronica In Early 2027
As the Resident Evil Requiem expansion is likely releasing after the next series remake, which was announced during this year’s Summer Game Fest showcase with a generic 2027 release window, the wait could be longer than anticipated. According to Dusk Golem, "Veronica is "all hands on deck" at the moment to see if they can get it finished for Q1 2027 (they will delay it to Q2 if needed, but want to see if they can reach that goal)"
Looking at the marketing cycles and release dates of previous entries in the series, such as Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil Requiem, Resident Evil Veronica does seem to be on track for a late February, early March release. Thankfully, with Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show coming up in the next few weeks, it will likely not take much longer to learn when the significant reimagining of Claire and Chris Redfield's story on Rockford Island and on the Antarctic Base will return to our screens.
