iPhone 6 Plus – the First from Apple to have Optical Image Stabilization

While both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are packed with new features and improvements, it is the camera that is being most-talked about here. Except, of course the second-generation A8 processing chip and its 20nm wonders. iPhone 6 Plus is the first ever smartphone from Cupertino to carry an optical image stabilization technology in its 8-megapixel iSight camera. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cameras are identical sans the OIS module: 8-megapixel primary iSight shooters with f/2.2 aperture, True Tone dual-LED flash, and 1080p video recording (with up to 60fps) with cinematic stabilization.iphone 6 plus OIS

First iPhone 6 Camera Samples – Images

iPhone 6 Plus optical image stabilization:

Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology helps in stabilizing the image by taking photos in quick successionand combining them to minimize motion blur. OIS stabilizes an still image and tries to avoid blur; with video recording, it removes shaking effects, thus affecting the overall camera quality. iPhones have typically used the digital stabilization technology where software adjusts the image to avoid blur. Primary shooter of iPhone 6 offers digital image stabilization.

iPhone 6 Plus being the first from Apple to feature OIS module does have all the rights to flaunt it. Apple explains that OIS in iPhone 6 Plus works with the smartphones' gyroscope, its A8 chipset, and the M8 motion coprocessor. This cooperation between the camera and processing units take the image quality to an entire new level. Apple says that the units literally move the camera lens in order to compensate for a photographer's shaky hands when taking the shots.

This in the end, gives you crisp and completely blur-free images even in the low light conditions. We will definitely wait for more real life photography from iPhone 6 Plus to see how improved the camera has actually become.
