Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Officially Announced by EA; More at E3 2015 Next Week
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Senior Producer, Sara Jansson, also posted a letter to the fans:
Two years ago we revealed that we were making a new Mirror’s Edge™. Last year, we gave you a behind the scenes look into some of the early progress we had made. And though we haven't said much else in all that time, we have been listening. Thank you for your incredible passion and your patience. I'm excited to tell you that it's paid off — by this time next week, you will have finally seen more of the game at E3.
Mirror’s Edge has always had a special place in the hearts of all of us at DICE. The first game had a lot of promise. It was unlike anything else in terms of the gameplay and style — it had a unique soul. But as much as we loved that game, we knew it could be more. So that’s what we have set out to do as we introduce Mirror’s Edge to a new generation.
The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience. This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror's Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.
So on behalf on the entire team here at DICE, we can’t wait to show you what we have been pouring our heart and soul into. We can’t wait to introduce you to Mirror’s Edge™ Catalyst.
We will learn more about Mirror's Edge Caralyst at EA's E3 2015 press conference on June 15
EA seems pretty confident about E3 2015, stating that they will bring the house down, and given that they will be showing Need for Speed, Star Wars Battlefront, Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, the new Plants vs Zombies game, and at least one more Star Wars title, I would have to agree that they could definitely achieve that.
The developers of Need for Speed, Ghost Games, clarify, that the latest iteration is not Underground 3, but it does share many of the features and aspects that made the Underground titles great. On June 15 more information on Need for Speed will be unveiled during EA's press conference.
Industry insider Shinobi602, who has been pretty accurate with everything he shared throughout the year, stated that EA has a lot more to announce at E3 2015. During a recent discussion over at NeoGAF, Shinobi stated that we should “look for 3 unannounced EA games, one of which is a new IP.”
Criterion's new game was teased last year as a new IP focusing on extreme racing. Visceral has been teasing their upcoming Star Wars game, which is the project that Amy Hennig is associated with, so a reveal at E3 2015 is likely to happen. Bioware's new IP has been teased for some time now so we might actually get a teaser of what that might be.
We will bring you any new information on Mirror's Edge, EA and E3 2015 as soon as it becomes available.
