One of the biggest draws of the Galaxy S24 series happens to be Galaxy AI, which was made possible by combining the best of Samsung's hardware and software. This AI suite made things a lot more convenient for power users, and now, it appears that the features might be coming to the older Galaxy S22 series, as well.
The Galaxy S22 series getting Galaxy AI with the help of the cloud is definitely something Samsung should work on
Now, for those who don't know, when Galaxy AI debuted, it was reported that the Galaxy S23 series would be getting the update. Although every Galaxy S23 user is already waiting for the update to hit the device, it is now being reported by Samsung's mobile division head, TM Roh, that the company is actually looking into ways that would allow it to bring One UI 6.1 along with all the AI features to the Galaxy S22 devices.
It is worth noting that despite being very capable, the Galaxy S22 does not have the necessary hardware for the Galaxy AI features to work. However, thanks to some software magic and on-cloud processing, it might be possible to make these features work the way they should on older devices.
Now, as an ex-Galaxy S22 Ultra user, I would be really happy, but TM Roh did not say that it would happen soon. He did talk about how the company is looking into bringing Galaxy AI to these devices, but as far as the future is concerned, we are still entirely unsure, and that could mean that we might never get the features coming for older devices.
Galaxy S22 and Galaxy AI weren't the only highlights of the topic. Roh also talked about how the company is currently looking into rollable and slideable form factors that will join the foldable lineup. This makes sense since Samsung has all the chops to pull this off, including one of the best display divisions in the industry. So, of course, the South Korean tech giant can actually pull it off going forward.
As far as the Galaxy S22 series getting Galaxy AI features, it is still something that is going to take some time. Note that while Samsung is looking into it, it might not happen after all. However, it is still a good sign that the company has not given up on its older devices and is actively looking to support them. We will let you know more details as this story develops.
