Apple introduced three iPhones this year, two luxe models, and one relatively affordable model, which is out of kilter for the company but it gives the consumers more choices. After all, spending a $1,000 on an iPhone XS might not be the most logical thing to do if you’re on a tight budget. As most of you know, The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the more premium phones.

These come with all the bells and whistles, while the company has cut corners on the iPhone XR to keep the cost from ballooning. Learning the Differences Between the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max

No doubt, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max represent the very best of premium flagships, but it does not mean you should go for the best all the time. Sometimes, knowing the key differences between the iPhone XR and the devices mentioned will make all the difference in the world. Before pre-ordering the iPhone XR or grabbing the iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max, you should know the differences between all three devices, and we’re here to provide all the necessary information to you.

iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max - Differences

On the surface, there are minimal differences. All of these three phones are underpinned by the A12 Bionic chipset along with the next-generation Neural Engine. However, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max feature 4GB of RAM, while the iPhone XR gets 3GB RAM. Now, why isn’t this a big deal? It’s because the iPhone X, the expensive $999 flagship that launched in 2017 also features 3GB RAM, so if you’re looking for something that will deliver a smooth experience, the iPhone XR will be doing that effortlessly.

Another difference comes with internal storage. The iPhone XR comes in the 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB models, while the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max exclude the 128GB variant and provide a model with a whopping 512GB storage. Let’s be clear here. You’ll probably never come close to that storage. Most people are still rocking their previous-generation iPhones and have still not come close to filling up that storage. For the majority of people, even a 128GB version of the iPhone XR is going to be more than sufficient for a few years.

Perhaps the most noticeable difference between the three phones is the display. The iPhone XS sports a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED screen, while iPhone XS Max has a massive 6.5-inch panel that uses the same display technology. DisplayMate has rated these screens as being the best in the smartphone business. The iPhone XR features a less expensive IPS LCD, which will produce less vibrant colors and will less bright outdoors, but get this.

On Apple’s iPhone comparison website, the iPhone XR has been rated at delivering better battery endurance than the iPhone XS Max in some categories. However, the iPhone XR doesn’t feature 3D Touch. While this may be a problem for most, it is something that you can pass on.

Another thing lacking on the iPhone XR is the dual rear camera system that the other two models have, which might matter to you if you are a camera buff. The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max feature a dual 12MP camera, while the iPhone XR sticks to a single 12MP sensor, so it will lose out on 2x optical zoom while retaining every other feature belonging to the optics side. Also, with an IP68 certification, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max offer water resistance to a depth of 2 meters, while this is reduced to 1 meter on the IP67 certified iPhone XR.

iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max - Similarities

All three models feature the 7nm FinFET A12 Bionic SoC. You can expect all the phones to provide the same level of performance. It is also worth mentioning that the A12 Bionic chip has smashed all benchmark records, and is being compared to desktop CPUs. All the three iPhone models also feature Face ID and have the 7MP TrueDepth front camera, which allows you to lock/unlock your phone using your face.

This was a major selling point of the $999 iPhone X from last year, and to get that for $749 on the iPhone XR is quite a bargain. All the three phones also support Qi wireless charging, as well as fast-charging that tops up the battery up to 50 percent while plugged in for just 30 minutes. Also, all three devices support two SIM cards at once, but this is going to be limited to China, unfortunately.

The 2018 iPhones are largely similar, and it all boils down to the rear camera system, display type, size and resolution, RAM, water-resistance, 3D Touch, and different storage variants. There have been reports stating that the iPhone XR is going to be the most popular out of the three. It means that even if there are compromises that come with the cheaper smartphone, chances are the average user most likely won’t be bothered about it too much.

Yet, there are others that want the best of the best, but we’d like to know your thoughts down in the comments. While you’re at it, you can also participate in the poll below. Would you order the iPhone XR, or get your hands on the iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max?

Have you purchased the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max or will you wait for the cheaper, but featured-enriched iPhone XR?
