HTC Isn’t Going to Be Introducing Any Flagships at This Year’s MWC 2017
After HTC announced its U Ultra and U Play phones earlier this year, it was highly unlikely that the manufacturer would end up introducing a Snapdragon 835-powered handset shortly after. That being said, the company isn’t going to be announcing a flagship during the MWC 2017 trade show, which is a real shame, because with Samsung out of the picture regarding its Galaxy S8, HTC could have had a real shot in getting some momentum going with a proper flagship for 2017.
HTC Still Committed to Releasing a Flagship But It Is Going to Appear Most Likely During the Second Half of This Year
In an interview conducted by Tbreak, one of the most important questions was asked regarding the company’s decision to make U Ultra the only flagship introduced in 2017. The response was very refreshing:
“When we will look back, it will be clear why HTC introduced [these new phones.] We want to have a couple of months of leadership before the next flagship CPU comes. But that will be in another period of time- not at MWC. Not for us or any other player. I can tell you that for sure. When the new CPU comes, HTC will have another flagship.”
In a different interview, the company stated that it is not giving up on the ‘One’ lineup of smartphones, suggesting that the manufacturer still has a flagship up its sleeve for the 2017 calendar year. However, the company’s executive stated that when the high-end chipsets (we’re assuming he means the Snapdragon 835) will become readily available to use in other devices, they will be incorporated inside an HTC flagship as well.
As you’ve all heard the rumor that Samsung has hogged up the initial supply for Snapdragon 835 SoCs for use in its upcoming Galaxy S8, leaving LG and others in a state of despair in choosing a high-end chipset for their own flagship, this will also include HTC.
