It would not be wrong to say that Samsung is considered one of the leading companies when it comes to cutting-edge OLED panels, and the company has announced several OLED panels at CES 2024. The one that caught my attention happens to be the new Flex In & Out OLED. As the name suggests, this OLED folds both inwards and outwards. If this goes into mass production, the future Galaxy Z Flip could start looking a lot like this.
The Flex In & Out OLED panel could revolutionize the Galaxy Z Flip series forever
The new Flex In & Out OLED is an excellent product since it can fold inwards and outwards. Considering how it can be folded 360 degrees, it completely eliminates the need to have a cover screen. This would result in the device being thinner and allow the companies to add more features to the device. Now, we know that this is not becoming a reality with the next Galaxy Z Flip, but it is still nice to see that the company is working on a feature such as this.
Although the Flex In & Out OLED does sound like really promising progress, we have some concerns. For instance, if we are to see the screen on a Galaxy Z Flip in the future, it could mean that part of the screen is always exposed, and that could result in damage. Thankfully, Samsung Display has talked about how they have made the panel stronger and even showed several durability tests at the booth. Of course, as we progress, we will see more improvements to the overall durability.
Speaking about the new Flex In & Out OLED, a Samsung rep talked about how "In&Out Flip is a technology that can provide a new alternative for consumers who prefer bar-shaped smartphones due to the thickness of foldable products. When folded outwards, both the front and back of the product can be used as a screen, creating a new user experience.”
Honestly, looking at the new Flex In & Out OLED panel, I am really looking forward to how Samsung implements this panel into a smartphone. I feel this could be the future of the Galaxy Z Flip, if not other foldable phones from Samsung. We will have to wait and see how this technology develops, but for now, let's hope that it turns into something that genuinely is impressive.
