Sony's pretty close to update the Xperia Z3 with Android Lollipop, so you'd do better than to lose all hope when it comes for the update to hit your device. Firmware for Lollipop on the Xperia Z3 has already gained Wi-Fi Alliance's certification indicating that Sony is perhaps in the final stages of development of the update for its flagship devices. By the looks of things, the Japanese manufacturer isn't in that much of a rush to update its devices with Android Lollipop however.
