New Mortal Kombat 1 footage was shared online today, providing a new look at two of the game's single-player modes, including a very interesting new mode powered by role-playing game mechanics.

Today, Maximilian Dood and IGN shared footage of the game's Story Mode and Invasion Mode, a new mode that was further detailed on the Official PlayStation Blog. In this mode, players explore a board game-like map with a party of characters, leveling them up, equipping them with loot, and fighting all sorts of opponents in different arenas.

In this mode, players will also get the chance to unlock a variety of extra content such as in-game currency, concept art, and more, as well as complete different mini-games based on previous entries in the series, such as classic Arcade Towers, Test Your Might and more. The experience promises to stay fresh throughout the game's lifespan as new Factions will continue to invade the mode's world, and each will come with new challenges and unlockables.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be yet another reimagining of the series' universe, featuring new versions of classic characters, a new Kameo Fighters system that allows players to call assist characters during matches, and more. To experience all this, players won't have to wait much longer, as the game launches on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Nintendo Switch on September 14th worldwide.
