Galaxy Z Fold 6 global sales

Samsung unveiled its Galaxy Z Fold 6 at the Unpacked Event 2024, and its user community immediately started drawing comparisons between the new foldable phone and its predecessor. While there is no denying that the South Korean tech giant has pioneered in the category, its ability to continue to evolve and innovate in the space has recently been questioned. Many users and tech enthusiasts suggest that the latest fold fell flat compared to not only the competition but also the previous generation variant. Recently, a tipster has backed these claims by sharing the global sales figure for Z Fold 6.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is considered to have not left a lasting impact, given its low global sales in comparison to its predecessor

Many were excited about the Galaxy Z Fold 6 due to its significant AI capabilities incorporation this time around and its portrayal as a major upgrade from its predecessor. The new fold model has a slightly tweaked design from the Galaxy Z Fold 5, with a more squarish look and flatter edges as the phone is shorter and wider than before, but it has not undergone a major design overhaul.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is priced higher than its previous generation for its AI-infused features and powerful processor, namely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a noticeable iteration from the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Despite these significant upgrades, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 did not quite leave the impression it was expected to, as a leaker gives away the sales for the first two weeks of the model, and it is not what you would have in mind.

As per the well-known tipster, Ice Universe, Galaxy Z Fold 6, despite its attempt to mark its place distinctively as the new foldable with high-end features and a powerful processor, was only able to sell 270,000 globally in the first two weeks and was, in comparison, to the Z Fold 5 way less demanded. While the tipster is popular for giving away some legitimate information, this shall still be taken with a grain of salt till things are officially confirmed.

Despite Samsung's AI-powered capabilities and powerful processor, global sales for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 were reported to be abysmal. This could be attributed to the lack of core design changes, the model's higher price, and even a lack of innovation in AI capabilities. It could be that with the iPhone 16 launch happening soon, people might not be upgrading to the Z Fold 6 as they plan on switching to the new iPhone model. We believe that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro model will boast a handful of new AI features that could potentially surpass Samsung's Galaxy AI initiatives.

Irrespective of the reason behind the decline in the global sales of the new foldable initially, Samsung needs to introduce more innovations, such as the double-fold phone it is developing, to shift the industry and sustain its position as the leader in the foldable market.
