We have seen Android 5.1.1 Lollipop coming to adorn most of the Nexus devices in the past weeks. Today, Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5 also get the honor of finally receiving the latest update. While we have already shared with you quite a many custom ROMs based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to help you update your Android devices to this latest firmware build, there are many users who'd rather wait for the official thing to come.

So no more wait for the owners of Nexus 4 and Nexus 5. Here are the Android 5.1.1 for Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 OTA links for you to update your devices on.
While some of you must have already started receiving the update, the Android 5.1.1 for Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 factory images haven't yet been updated on Google Dev site. You can get the OTA Android 5.1.1 Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 links from here and flash them manually on your devices via ADB.
Note: We wouldn't recommend you to try the manual method if you aren't familiar with the process; better wait for the official notification.
Android 5.1.1 for Nexus 4 and Nexus 5:
Here are the factory images of Android 5.1.1 for Nexus 4 and Nexus 5:
- Nexus 4 OTA: occam-mako LMY47V from LMY470
- Nexus 5 factory image: hammerhead LMY48B from LMY47D and OTA Image
Once you have download these links, you can follow our guides to flash these manually on your Nexus devices. You can also use the guides to root your Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 on this latest official update.
Here are some steps given, but try to visit the guide posts to read prerequisites and preparatory alerts before proceeding.
Step 1:
Unzip the downloaded factory images for your device to a folder for later access. Locate the folder and type cmd to the address bar on Windows or launch terminal and change this folder with the one we saved, on Mac, Chrome OS or Linux. Make sure the terminal is running inside the unzipped folder if you're operating on a Mac.
Step 2:
Your Nexus should be bootloader unlocked for the operation to succeed, if its not, better do that first. The locked device will enable all of you data to be wiped away that also includes settings and user data. Next, you have to have adb bootloader installed on your Mac, Windows or any other OS you are running. Install it if you don't have it. Assuming you installed the adb bootloader, type the command written below in the terminal of the adb Bootloader. Hit Enter.
adb reboot bootloader
Type this In Fastboot:
fastboot oem unlock
Hit Enter and follow the onscreen instructions on your Nexus and choose to erase the device. This will remove everything on the Nexus, this might take a while.
Step 3:
This step will involve flashing the desired factory image to your Nexus device. Open the folder containing the Android 5.1.1 factory image in step 1. In the address bar, type cmd and type the commands written below and press enter. On a Mac, you can either access the terminal by creating a shortcut through setting or you can directly do it from the desktop.
All the necessary files will be flashed to your Nexus device to enable complete installation of the Android 5.1.1 update to your Nexus. Mac or other computer users will type the following command. This command has a purpose to transfer all of the necessary files to your Nexus device.
- On Windows: Run flash-all.bat
- On Mac: Run flash-all.sh using Terminal
- On Linux: Run flash-all.sh
Step 4:
The files will be moved to your device and your Nexus device may restart. Don't be surprised to see an Android bot and the moving logo, its part of the scheme. DO NOT UNPLUG OR POWER OFF YOUR DEVICE in this process, even though it may take a while or so. When its done, you will be asked to complete the setup that is when you can unplug your device from the computer.
For updating OTA file and NOT a factory image (thanks for pointing out folks, however, we'd still ask you to visit the guides to get proper steps and prereqs),
- Download OTA zip on your computer.
- Reboot device into bootloader: switch off and back on while holding the Volume and Power keys.
- Get into Recovery mode by scrolling down and selecting with the Power key.
- Once in, hold Volume Up and Power keys for a few seconds and release the Volume key to get the menu.
- From the menu, select apply update from ADB.
- Plug your Nexus into your computer.
- Open up Command Prompt on Windows and Terminal on Mac.
- Change the directory to the location of the download OTA file (e.g. cd /users/<username>/Downloads/).
- Run the command,
- adb sideload <name of the OTA file.zip>
- When you see Install from ADB complete on screen, reboot your device.
When your device is back on, it'd be running the very latest Android 5.1.1 on your Nexus.
