Google is looking to make some changes to accommodate its early Android 16 release plans. This year, the company's Pixel 9 series launched two months early, but it saw fit to release Android 15 for all compatible models almost two months later in October. While it was an eerie move from the company's end, it is now planning to release Android 16 much earlier than expected.
Google will release Android 16 a lot earlier than this year to give the new Pixels a fresh start
According to AndroidHeadlines, Google will release Android 16 earlier than expected. While the company has not shared the exact dates, there are quite a few speculations that could be considered plausible. We presume that Google will launch the Android 16 update alongside the Pixel 10 lineup next year, allowing the new devices to be refreshed on a hardware and software level.
According to sources, Google will release Android 16 on June 3. The update's AOSP build will be released on the same day as the OTA for all Pixel devices, at least two to three months earlier than the company's typical time frame. Google says the main reason for shifting the release before the usual timing is to port the software to new devices launching in the fall. This means the company's devices coming out in July, August, and September will get an Android 16 update on the first day.
Once the company has seeded the initial build of Android 16, it will release another build later in the year to bring performance upgrades and under-the-hood changes for a smooth user experience. These point updates will be specifically released for AI, which will allow developers to take advantage of the new APIs and features quickly.
Google desperately needed to update its release time schedule for different updates and devices. For instance, the Pixel launch was too close to the holiday season, which could have an impact on its sales after launch. The launch was also closer to the iPhone launch, which could have put the devices into direct comparison.
Since Android 16 will be released a month or two before the launch of the Pixel 10, it would have fewer bugs at launch since the company would have already fixed the underlying issues. It remains to be seen what further changes we can expect from Google in terms of its release schedule and if they will have an impact on the feature set coming with Android 16. This is because the company would have fewer months to develop the update than last year. We will keep you posted, so do stick around.
