AMD's next-generation 3D V-Cache flagship, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, has been tested in the Factoria benchmark, showcasing strong uplifts over 7950X3D.
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D Flagship 3D V-Cache CPU Shows Strong Uplift In Performance Over 7950X3D, 16 "Zen 5" Cores With X3D
Yesterday, we saw the first reviews of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, which has been titled the fastest gaming processor on the planet. While the 9800X3D packs 8 cores, the company is also working on a higher-end X3D variant with double the cores, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
As for the specifications, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU should feature 16 cores and 32 threads arranged in two Zen 5 CCDs. As per previous reports, the chip should retain the same amount of cache as the 7950X3D, which is 64 MB L3 from the CCDs, and a singular 3D V-Cache stack of 64 MB for a total of 128 MB cache. The chip will also feature 16 MB of L2 cache for a 144 MB pool.
Clock speeds and TDPs are unknown, but given what we have seen on the 9800X3D, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU might also take advantage of the 2nd Gen 3D V-Cache stacking technology & allow for higher clock speeds than the 7950X3D while offering a TDP of 120-170W. The CPU should also feature full overclocking support besides the standard PBO and CO tuning options.
The performance of the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 3D V-Cache CPU was tested in Factorio where the chip scored 655 UPS. For comparison, the Ryzen 7 7950X3D scores an average of 400 & up to 458 UPS, while the Ryzen 7 9800X3D scores 553.7 UPS on average. This is an improvement of up to 64% over the 7950X3D and an 18% improvement over the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The results can be seen in the chart below:
Factorio UPS (Higher is Better)
The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU is expected to launch in early 2025 and should be announced at CES 2025. It will continue to build on the momentum started by the 9800X3D and will be priced at a premium due to its strong performance and efficiency. Expect more information in the coming months.
