Intel Launching 17 Broadwell-U 14nm Processors at CES 2015 – Will Feature Intel Iris Graphics 6100 GPU

Intel is planning to launch their next generation Broadwell-U series processors at CES 2015 which commences in January, next year. The details of the new processors come straight from VR-Zone who have detailed 17 U-series dual core processors which will make debut at the CES 2015 stage. Featuring the 14nm architecture, the Broadwell processors will feature lower power consumption and deliver more performance output than its Haswell counterparts.

Intel recently launched their Core M processors at IDF 2014 which are based on the Broadwell-Y die featuring 4.5W TDP. The Broadwell-U series will be integrated in high-performance and premium notebook designs. The chips will be divided into two variants, the dual core models with GT2 graphics and the dual core models with GT3 graphics chipsets.

There will also be parts with GT3e “Iris Pro” level graphics chipsets which include the HD 6100 “Iris” GT3e with 48 Execution Units and 128 MB eDRAM cache, HD 6000 with 48 Execution units and no L4 cache, HD 5300/5500 GT2 graphics chip with 24 Execution units and GT1 HD Graphics chip with just 12 Execution units. Broadwell has increased the EU count by 50% and there are seven H/W threads per EU with 128 GRF registers per thread along with simultaneous multi-threading support. At 850 MHz, the GT2 graphics chip delivers 326.4 GFlops of performance at just 4.5W in the Core M chips compared to HD 4400 which had 20 EUs clocked at 1100 MHz delivering 352 GFlops. There are even faster GT2 graphics chips which can clock up to 950 MHz.

Coming back to Broadwell-U, there will be 17 different SKUs, all of which would be available in BGA packaging. The Core i7-5650U, Core i7-5500U are clocked at 2.2 / 2.4 GHz clock speeds with 3.1 / 2.9 GHz turbo speeds in respective. Both processors feature the HD 6000 series graphics chip featuring base clock of 300 MHz and max clock of 1000 MHz / 950 MHz respectively. Both chips have 4 MB of L3 cache, 15W TDP and 1866 MHz DDR3 and 1600 MHz DDR3L memory support. There are several Core i5 and Core i3 chips including Pentium/Celeron series which come with dual core and single-threaded designs featuring the HD graphics chip which is based on the GT1 design (12 EUs).

The most interesting stack is the Iris HD 6100 graphics enabled Core i7-5557U, Core i5-5287U, Core i5-5257U and Core i3-5157U processors coming at 3.1 / 2.9 / 2.7 / 2.5 GHz base clocks and 3.4 / 3.3 / 3.1 GHz maximum turbo clock speeds while the graphics clock will be maintained at 1100 / 1100 / 1050 / 1000 MHz for all the chips respectively. Aside from the Core i7-5557U which has 4 MB L3 cache, all other chips will have 3 MB L3 cache, 15W TDP and support both DDR3 and DDR3L memory.
