Ultrasn0w For iOS 6.1 Brings iPhone Unlock On Supported Basebands
Only a couple of days back the evasi0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.x was released. Many iPhone users were asking when Ultrasn0w for iOS 6.1 was going to be released. Turns out, it was quietly released back on Monday. The new Ultrasn0w for iOS 6.1 brings iPhone unlock on supported basebands, meaning that only those iPhones can be unlocked which are still running on unlockable basebands.
People who have newer iPhones such as the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 will not be able to use Ultrasn0w for iOS 6.1 to unlock their devices. These iPhones have basebands which cannot be unlocked using software based methods such as Ultrasn0w. This method is nonetheless compatible with iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4.
Once again let me remind you that it is imperative that your iPhone has a supported baseband for Ultrasn0w to work. Ultrasn0w for iOS 6.1 brings iPhone unlock on iPhone 4 running baseband 01.59.00. For iPhone 3GS the supported basebands are 06.15.00, 05.12.01, 0.5.11.07, 05.13.04 or 04.26.08. If you don't know how to check the baseband on your iPhone, launch Settings.app, go to General followed by About. Scroll down, the numbers in front of Modem Firmware tell you what baseband your iPhone is running on.
If you're unlocked on an older firmware and are upgrading to iOS 6.1 firmware right now, be sure to retain your old baseband before updating. You will need redsn0w tool for this. Download redsn0w, launch it, click on Extras, Even More and Restore. From there you can choose not to upgrade baseband while upgrading to the newer iOS firmware. Once restoration takes place, you can follow this guide to jailbreak iOS 6.1 untethered using evasi0n.
You will need to add a repository in Cydia to download Ultrasn0w for iOS 6.1. Launch Cydia and tap on Sources. Now tap the plus icon and add the following url: http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com. Once you install Ultrasn0w for iOS 6.1 restart your iPhone once. It will now be unlocked.
