The iPhone 16 will receive its fair share of improvements later this year in terms of design and feature set. It is now being rumored that the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will come with the same color-infused back glass as the current models. The company introduced the new glass process last year for its comparatively less expensive iPhone 15 models.
Apple to launch the standard iPhone 16 models with color-infused glass, the same as the iPhone 15
The standard models in the iPhone 16 lineup are reported to come with major design changes on the back. This year, Apple is reverting back to the iPhone X or iPhone 12-like design, which will switch the camera layout from diagonal to vertical. We have seen various renders, and the design, albeit new, is pretty reminiscent of the company's older models. Now, the company is expected to bring the iPhone 15's color-infused glass to the iPhone 16 models.
Apple's custom dual-ion exchange glass process gives the iPhone models a hazy look, which brings it closer to the 'Pro' models. This allows the device to match the color of the back glass to the color of the frame. Check out what Apple has to say about the new infused-glass technology:
"For the first time in a smartphone, colour is infused throughout the back glass, creating five beautiful colours. The back glass is strengthened with an optimized dual-ion exchange process before being polished with nanocrystalline particles and etched to create a luxurious, textured matte finish."
The leaker, "Fixed Focus Digital," shared the details in a Weibo post and claimed that he had seen all the colors of the iPhone 16. He states that this year's iPhone 16 models will feature the same infused-glass process, resulting in a similar outlook of the device. However, it was also coined in the post that the company could offer seven different colors this year instead of five. We suspect that it is very unlikely, but the final word rests with Apple.
Another leaker from Weibo coined last month that the iPhone 16 Pro could come with the same color-infused glass as the iPhone 16 models. Today's leak does not take the iPhone 16 Pro models into account. Other than this, we have previously noted that the titanium frame on the 'Pro' models will be glossy, kind of similar to the stainless steel finish on the iPhone 14 Pro models. It remains to be seen if the company will offer all iPhone 16 models with the same color-infused glass so stay tuned for further information.
