Another Summer Game Fest has come and gone, though we're still feeling the ripple effects of everything that was just announced. Part of that comes in the form of looking at what resonated the most with players, and as part of a report from The Game Business, marketing analytics firm LevelUp has the answer for the games that garnered the most engagement from players and press, and none of the top-10 games are a surprise.
That's because they're all big, triple-A juggernauts that would've been the most-talked-about games regardless of where they showed up. Not a single indie game broke through to the top 10, and if anything, the only shock is how low some of these reveals sit on the list next to their fellow juggernauts.
God of War Laufey, which premiered at the State of Play days before the rest of the Summer Game Fest showcases, was the far and away winner of the festival as far as engagement is concerned. It's yet another example of PlayStation hosting its showcase slightly ahead of everyone else, and dominating the conversation, even as the big reveals keep coming.
Conversely, the last major announcement of Summer Game Fest, the official reveal of Nintendo's remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was the next closest game to Laufey, landing in second place, while the opening title for Summer Game Fest, Resident Evil: Veronica, makes it into third.
Rounding out the rest of the top five is Marvel's Wolverine and Gears of War E-Day, neither of which are surprising, especially when considering that E-Day continues to draw attention as Xbox and The Coalition continue to muddy the waters around when E-Day was made an Xbox exclusive. Which, as an aside, is ultimately a moot point now that it is exclusive, and it's not turning away from that.
Back to the top 10, the rest of the list is filled with Kingdom Hearts IV at sixth place, Persona 6 in seventh place, Final Fantasy VII Revelation in eighth, Spyro: A Realm Reborn in ninth, and Until Dawn 2 in tenth. It's arguable that Until Dawn 2 squeezing into the final spot is the only real surprise of the list, since it could have just as easily been Clockwork Revolution, or Senua, or Alien: Isolation 2, or several other major announcements from the past week.
