Samsung’s Bixby Speaker Reportedly In Works To Rival Google Home and Amazon Echo

We know that many of you must be thinking - didn't they report a similar story earlier? But, this time a report from the Wall Street Journal seemingly confirms that Samsung is indeed working on its own Bixby speaker.

The Korean giant is working on a standalone Bixby speaker geared with its voice-activated Bixby assistant for carrying out a variety of tasks. With Bixby speaker, Samsung will be joining the ranks of smart home speakers like Google Home and Amazon Echo.

Apple’s iPhone 13 Was the Best Selling Smartphone in Q1, 2022, No Samsung Flagship Made It in the Top Five

As good as it sounds, but Samsung is yet to roll out the full-fledged English language version of the Bixby assistant for the Galaxy S8. It means that the company shall be taking enough time before coming up with the Bixby speaker. The priority for Samsung is to make Bixby's English version available for the Galaxy S8. The report from WSJ says that Samsung has been working on Bixby speaker for more than a year and has internally codenamed it "Vega."

Samsung's Bixby speaker would be the latest entrant in the growing market of smart speakers, which is currently ruled by Amazon's Echo at 70% and Google Home at 30%. These are just the existing players, the rest of the competition would be coming with Microsoft's Cortana-based speaker that would launch in the fall, this year. The next in line is Apple's Siri-powered HomePod that would debut in December.

This is not the first time when Samsung is rumoured to be working on voice activated speaker. It was earlier tipped to be working on the project codenamed Hive in March 2005, but it was reportedly shelved due to a software issue with the voice recognition technology. Apparently, the same software issue is responsible for the delayed rollout of Bixby English language version for the Galaxy S8 lineup.

Far fetched reality until Bixby's rollout for Galaxy S8....

We can expect Samsung to launch Bixby speakers after successfully rolling out Bixby assistant on the Galaxy S8. Until then, the Bixby speaker seems like a far-fetched reality for Samsung.
