Hi-Rez just announced Paladins: Battlegrounds, a new Battle Royale mode coming to the highly popular hero shooter available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Paladins: Battlegrounds has been designed from the ground up to be played in teams, according to Hi-Rez, and players will have to stick together to survive. Players will spawn on a massive map that's said to be over 300 times the square footage of a typical Paladins map seen in Siege mode.
Along the way, they'll find over "four dozen" outposts filled with various loot and zeppelins that drop legendary gear. As expected, there will be a system akin to PUBG's 'Blue Zone' called fog which will gradually contract the playable zone to raise the stakes. The last team standing will win; it doesn't like it will be possible to play solo.
Todd Harris, Executive Producer of Paladins, said:
Riding on a mount through this massive fantasy-themed map, looking for gear and cooperating with your team, Paladins: Battlegrounds delivers some of the feel of open-world MMO PvP but all within a 20-minute match.
An Alpha version of Paladins: Battlegrounds is playable now at Hi-Rez Expo while the full release of this new mode is expected to land later this year, free-to-play just like the rest of the game.
This isn't all Hi-Rez announced for Paladins, anyway. A new Champion, the game's 35th, is coming and she's called Moji. This magical Flank introduces a new species to the Realm, the Leipori. She rides a summoned two-headed dragon into battle, feeding it snacks to reload its magical energy.
There's also a new game mode coming, though it is the most common of all: Team Deathmatch. It will be available alongside a new map, Trade District. Feline fans will be happy to learn about the new mount type, Battle Cats; the first one is the Primal Prowler and will be exclusively available for free to Twitch Prime subscribers.
Last but not least, Paladins Strike is a mobile game which melds the hero shooter with MOBA elements and a top-down view. You can sign up for testing at this address.
