A leaked Intel Desktop CPU slide has revealed the configurations of the Meteor Lake-S & Arrow Lake-S chips for the 800-series platform.

Intel Desktop CPUs Leak: Meteor Lake-S Up To 65W Core i5 Chips, Arrow Lake Up To 125W Core i9 Chips On 800-Series Platform

The slide has been shared by @SquashBionic over at Twitter which gives us a high-level overview of different Intel Desktop families including the next-gen Meteor Lake-S and Arrow Lake-S series. Now it is not known when this slide was released but the information it reveals covering the two desktop series is interesting.

Starting with the most obvious one, both the Intel Meteor Lake-S and Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs are going to feature support on the LGA 1851 (Socket V1) which features a package size of 45x37.5 mm, the same dimensions as the existing LGA 1700 socket. This would allow easy compatibility for coolers. There will also be the latest 800-series platform which will have support for both processor families so we are going to get Z890, H870, B860 & H810 chipset-based motherboards. The desktop platforms will retain support for DDR5 memory but allow for higher speeds.

Coming to the per-family CPU configuration, the Intel Meteor Lake-S Desktop CPUs will come in up to Core i5 SKUs with 65W TDPs and 3-4 VR phases (VCC_Core / VR Rail). The Intel Arrow Lake-S CPUs will come in up to Core i9 SKUs with 125W TDPs and 6-7 VR Phases. The first number is the baseline and the second number is the performance-tuned variant so one can expect multiple variants. The leak kind of confirms the Meteor Lake-S Desktop CPUs will not feature as many cores as the Raptor Lake parts since they only go up to Core i5 SKUs.

A few months ago, we reported original Meteor Lake-S plans which include various SKUs for the desktop LGA 1851 platform. The SKUs list includes (the 125W variants were previously listed but the new leak points out to that configuration being cancelled):

  • MTL-S 22 (6P + 16E) / 4 Xe Cores / 125W TDP
  • MTL-S 22 (6P + 16E) / 4 Xe Cores / 65W TDP
  • MTL-S 22 (6P + 16E) / 4 Xe Cores / 35W TDP
  • MTL-S 14 (6P + 8E) / 4 Xe Cores / 65WTDP
  • MTL-S 14 (6P + 8E) / 4 Xe Cores / 35WTDP

Meanwhile, the Intel Arrow Lake-S Desktop SKUs are expected in the following configurations:

  • Arrow Lake-S 24 (8P + 16E) / 4 Xe Cores / 125W TDP
  • Arrow Lake-S 24 (8P + 16E) / 4 Xe Cores / 65W TDP
  • Arrow Lake-S 24 (8P + 16E) / 4 Xe Cores / 35W TDP

After hearing multiple rumors about the cancellation of Intel's Meteor Lake-S Desktop CPUs in 2022, now it is the complete opposite & several reports show that Meteor Lake-S might end up being available in some shape and form on desktop platforms. A recently listed and official testing tool from Intel along with reports of ES sampling are small indicators that we are going to see the chips on the desktop socketed platform.

The Intel Meteor Lake-S Desktop CPUs are expected to launch in 2024 following the release of the last LGA 1700 socketed family, the 14th Gen Raptor Lake refresh which will be released later this year. It is likely that Meteor Lake-S and Arrow Lake-S CPUs launch at the same time for desktops since they are covering different SKU segments. Meteor Lake-S can cover the mainstream while Arrow Lake can cover the high-end segment.
