Xbox One’s predecessor Xbox 360 has also seen a ton of updates over time. Looking at it, we do expect Microsoft rolling out some pretty good updates to Xbox One too.
It should be noted here that Microsoft doesn’t allow gamers currently to download software updates to a drive and update their console. You need to have your console update its software. So if you don’t like taking your console online, you will have to do without the occasional updates. Microsoft does say that user who prefer not to go online will be perfectly fine with playing games on their consoles without most of the updates.
However, the support documents do indicate that games using Kinect 2 sensor may not function without the latest software updates. So yes, you might have to update Xbox One!
Here is how to make sure your console keep updating itself with latest Dashboard updates. Xbox One automatically checks for latest updates if your console’s Instant-On mode is on! Here is how to update Xbox One:
- Press the Guide button on your controller. Alternatively, say Xbox, Go Home, if you have your Kinect 2 sensor plugged into your Xbox One.
- Select My games & apps. Alternatively, say Xbox, go to My Games and Apps.
- Select Settings; with a controller, select Power and start up from the list of Settings options in the center of your screen.
- Go to Power Options > select Power Mode if it’s currently set to Energy Saving. If it’s already set to Instant-On then you needn’t do anything else.
Once this is checked, your console with download them automatically and ask you for permission to install them. That’s how easy it is to update Xbox One!
