The HomePod has remained the same in terms of design, even after it was discontinued and reintroduced. Now, it appears that the company is finally gearing up to give its smart speaker a second look. It was reported a few months ago that Apple is planning to fit a display on top of the HomePod and today, we have a leaked image of a component that belongs to the smart speaker, showcasing the cover glass of the screen on top.
The next generation of HomePod could come with a display on top that will show relevant information to users
X user Kosutami, who is known for sharing unreleased Apple prototypes, has shared an image of a circular glass that will go on top of the forthcoming HomePod. Other than the display, the smart speaker will practically look the same way as its current counterpart, but the upgrade could be a lot different on the inside with improved components.
As mentioned, the glass on the top will be the only new aspect, and it could offer enhanced controls and various UI elements that show relevant information. Kosutami also previously claimed that the glass would be curved, which is another aspect of how the upcoming model will be different than the current version. Note that the leaked component could be one of the prototypes the company is testing, and it would not be a surprise if the product did not see daylight at all.

Since this is not the first time that we have heard details on the HomePod with a display, we suspect the company will launch its upgraded smart speaker in the near future. The HomePod with a display has been in the rumors for a while, and we have reported on various occasions that the product will see daylight soon. However, the exact launch time frame is unknown at this point, but the company could bring the device to life later this year.
The display will offer a handful of controls for the HomePod and also show relevant information from Apple Music and additional controls for an enhanced overall user experience. Currently, the display on the HomePod houses an interface that only animates in the form of a waveform, but the upgraded display could allow users to control the device, possibly via a touchscreen. However, since the final word rests with Apple, we would advise you to take the news with a pinch of salt.
