Hogwarts Legacy Dominated Q1 2023 Sales and It’s Not Even Out on the Biggest Consoles Yet

Hogwarts Legacy sold extremely well. We've known that since the game marked several early records, such as topping single player game charts on Twitch and entering the Top 10 of Steam's all-time concurrent player chart. Shortly after that, Warner Bros. Games announced it had sold over 12 million copies of the game, earning $850 million. It was the publisher's biggest launch ever.

Later, we discovered it was also the fastest launch ever recorded by European charts (except for FIFA, which is unbeatable in the continent). However, the latest NewZoo report on the US and UK markets reveals exactly how much Hogwarts Legacy has dominated the sales charts in the first quarter of 2023.

According to the gaming industry analyst firm, the game made by Avalanche Software defined the quarter, earning far more revenue than any other PC game in the United States and the United Kingdom, as you can see in the charts below.

The Top 10 also shows a strong performance from Sons of the Forest, the survival horror game developed by Endpoint. Sons of the Forest ranked second in the US and third in the UK. Dead Space is the only other game released this year to make the charts, otherwise populated by the usual suspects: Call of Duty, Fortnite, League of Legends, Roblox, Valorant, The Sims 4, and Destiny 2.

Interestingly, Hogwarts Legacy still hasn't been released on the biggest consoles. The game is coming out tomorrow on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the older consoles from Sony and Microsoft with a much bigger installed base than PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. In late July, Hogwarts Legacy will also launch on the Nintendo Switch, the largest platform of all with over 122 million consoles sold as of late 2022.

If this trend continues with the new releases, Hogwarts Legacy could become the biggest game of the year, beating even Call of Duty.
