Grand Theft Auto V PC Could Be Getting Mantle API Support – Other Games Confirmed
'GTA V PC' had been the pinnacle of PC release controversy this past year (before Watch Dogs that is) and we are still waiting to see how the game looks after the application of Photoreal mods. Thankfully the game along with other titles could be getting Mantle API support, which needless to put, would be a literal game changer. The info was given to us by our sister site Videocardz.com
'GTA V PC' And Other Titles Could be Getting 'Mantle API' Support
"GTA V PC" was the the World's Most Expensive Video Game ever made (and could still be considering Destiny's budget is now in question) and if it gets Mantle Support, it would be a massive win for AMD. There are other games that are "Mantle Support Pending" and contain some notable titles such as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but no title will make as big an impact as "GTA V PC". Now before we go any further lets take a look at the unreleased games that are queued for Mantle Support:
- Homefront: The Revolution
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
- Alien: Isolation
- Elite: Dangerous
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance
- Lichdom: Battlemage
- Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars
We already know which games have confirmed Mantle support so I wont go into those, but this information in its self is quite interesting. I already gave my opinion in an editorial that the logical choice for any developer whether he is on team DX12 or not would be to utilize Mantle API right now. This is because Mantle API can be easily ported to DX12 if the developer so wants after release. So there is literally zero reason for any developer to not-utilize Mantle API right now, regardless of where his loyalties lie. Getting Mantle API in "GTA V PC" could be one of the major steps that Mantle takes to become a competitor to DX12 that is here to stay.
Ofcourse this is not just about Mantle, the low level API in an open world game such as Grand Theft Auto could make one helluva difference for low-mid end rigs. GTA is all about Modding and the low level api would only help drive this dream further with more elaborate and resource intensive mods. So fingers crossed and lets wait and see whether the above titles and "GTA V PC" get Mantle Support.
