Gigabyte Preparing At Least Four New NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs, Likely Featuring GDDR6 Memory 1

Gigabyte has registered four brand new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 custom GPUs which are likely to be utilizing GDDR6 memory.

NVIDIA's plan to tackle the shortage of GDDR6X memory chips with GDDR6 memory equipped GPUs can come to reality any time soon. A few days ago, we reported that GALAX was preparing its RTX 4070 12GB GDDR6 edition and now it seems that Gigabyte is also preparing its own GeForce RTX 4070 models equipped with GDDR6 memory chips.

Recently, four different variations of Gigabyte's GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs were seen on EEC(Eurasian Economic Commission), which were registered on 14th August 2024. This recent edition provides us with the model names for the newer NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 cards. It seems that all of these models belong to the WindForce lineup but the information about the memory type is still missing. The listed cards are:

  • GV-N4070WF3OCV2-12GD (Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Windforce 3X OC V2)
  • GV-N4070WF3V2-12GD (Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Windforce 3X V2)
  • GV-N4070WF2OCV2-12GD (Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Windforce 2X OC V2)
  • GV-N4070WF2V2-12GD (Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Windforce 2X V2)

The model names confirm that these will be the dual/triple-fan Windforce models which will come in both overclocked and reference flavors. As Gigabyte already has these editions with the existing GDDR6X VRAM configuration, the 'V2' denotes that these are newer SKUs. Hence, it's safe to assume that these will be equipped with GDDR6 VRAM instead of GDDR6X memory.

The newer NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs will run at 20Gbps GDDR6 speeds instead of 21Gbps of GDDR6X. The slight decrease in memory speed may result in slower performance but this could be unnoticeable in most instances. The rest of the specifications for the RTX 4070 GDDR6 variant will be intact as before but it's not yet known whether NVIDIA will launch these at the MSRP of the original edition or will reduce the prices.

Currently, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU is available for as low as $540 like this MSI RTX 4070 Ventus 2X edition. Similarly, most RTX 4070s have dropped down to $550 since the arrival of its Super edition. The RTX 4070 remains one of the best graphics cards in the market, featuring 5888 Cuda Cores and 12GB VRAM on a memory bus of 192-bit. The newer edition with GDDR6 memory will most probably start shipping next week but may not be a permanent solution to the GDDR6X memory shortages.
