For Honor Gets Xbox One X Patch, Adding Dynamic 4K, Improved Shadows, Improved LOD & SSR

Ubisoft's melee action game For Honor just received an Xbox One X patch (v1.16). Owners of Microsoft's newly released console will be able to enjoy 4K (dynamic) resolution, improved shadows, improved LOD and the addition of Screen-Space Reflections on water surfaces.

4K Rendering

Xbox One X graphics are rendered at 4K. This will bring you a much sharper image on a 4K TV. We are using a real-time variable resolution (up to 4K-2160p) coupled with hardware scaling that output to TV resolution. With the scaling, even lower resolution HD TV’s will notice a better overall definition.

Improved shadow resolution

Shadows on Xbox One X will have a better definition.

Improved level of detail distances

Far away environment objects will be rendered with a higher definition.

Improved water using Screen-Space Reflections

Many water surfaces will now show dynamic reflections.

For Honor recently got its Season 4 update, which added two new heroes, two new maps and a brand new 4v4 Tribute mode.

Halo Infinite Campaign Analysis Shows Xbox One X Resolution Much Higher Than Xbox Series S

Dave enjoyed the game in his review, despite the server issues that happened when it launched earlier this year.

For all of the failings of For Honor – campaign being one of them – there’s also a good deal here to praise. Although, the online servers certainly are not one of those things – days after launch the servers had problems, in the weeks following more problems occurred, and now Ubisoft is handing out “Champion Status” to players to make up for it. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that’s good enough in a game where you need to be connected to Ubisoft’s servers just to play Story missions.

At its core, For Honor is a smart multiplayer game, one of the best multiplayer games to focus on melee combat, and loads of fun in its own right. But its issues are hard to ignore.
