Final Fantasy XVI is looking better and better with each new showing, and it's clear how its visuals have improved quite a bit since the game's reveal back in 2020. How much they have improved was highlighted by a new video that was recently shared online.

The new early comparison video, which was put together by Final FanTV, compares footage from the Awakening trailer shared back in September 2020 with the footage seen in last week's State of Play, highlighting how pretty much everything from character models to lighting and shadows was improved considerably. One very interesting thing to note is that, despite the increase in visual quality, the art style has remained consistent, highlighting even more how Naoki Yoshida and his team have had a definite idea of the direction of the upcoming new entry in the series.

Even without directly comparing it to older footage, the latest Final Fantasy XVI showing was definitely impressive. With what seems like a tight blend between action and role-playing game elements, the next entry in the series will definitely mark a new beginning for a franchise that has already changed a lot since its beginnings.

Launching only on PlayStation 5 as of now, Final Fantasy XVI will take advantage of the console's unique features in some very interesting ways. The DualSense controller's haptic feedback, for example, will be used to portray details that were never possible before. Additionally, without the console's memory and SSD, the game would still be in development, according to director Hiroshi Takai.

Final Fantasy XVI launches on PlayStation 5 on June 22nd. A PC version will likely release as well, only it will not come exactly as the six-month exclusivity period ends, as it would be impossible to properly optimize a new version of the game in such a short time.
