It took a DRAM shortage to finally break the back of the Windows laptop market, whereas Apple’s MacBook range has been somewhat stabilized in terms of pricing, save for the hike the company was forced to introduce as its memory stockpile ran out. Noticing this trend, one anti-Apple consumer who would badmouth the company at every opportunity, such as the premium pricing and lack of customization options, is now saying that he has hit rock bottom and is unable to find a notebook in a suitable budget. That’s karma for you.
Despite Apple’s price hikes, MacBooks continue to offer an incredible ‘price to performance’ ratio, but don’t count out Windows laptops just yet
It’s no easy feat living in 2026 and searching for a new notebook to daily drive, as memory and storage prices have made the majority of products unaffordable for the masses. Lenovo has also admitted that the high RAM prices are the new normal, with the shortage not expected to end until 2030. In the midst of all these events, Redditor “systemg7” might be regretting the remarks made about Apple’s MacBooks, especially seeing as how the MacBook Neo will cater to most people’s needs and is listed for $689.99 on retailers like Amazon.
“Out of pure desperation, I have started looking up "best ways to transition to macbook from windows" videos, it's like a living nightmare. The build quality looks incredible, and everyone I know with an Apple Silicon chip swears they get 15+ hours of battery life. The fact that a base M2 or M3 MacBook Air is looking like the most "reasonable" value for money right now is making me question my entire reality.”
In the post, the Redditor mentions a budget of £1,500, which translates to $2,000, making it a decent chunk of change, meaning that there are a ton of options to choose from. However, despite the Windows laptop market being an absolute mess right now, you don’t have to search through every crevice to find something desirable, as there are rare gems just waiting to be picked up.
For instance, the HP OmniBook 3 offers an excellent assortment of hardware, ports, and everything else, including a Snapdragon X SoC, while retailing for only $599.99, making it a winner for every budget-friendly consumer out there. Then again, higher-end options like the ASUS Zenbook S16 equipped with a monstrous Snapdragon X2 Elite lean more towards the Redditor’s budget as it’s available for $1,599.99.
In short, the Windows laptop market might be a miserable place for consumers, but that doesn’t make it a complete waste of time. However, if you’re still looking for better value, we’ll stand by our previous claims that MacBooks offer more in this regard. As time passes by, we’re confident that several other anti-Apple consumers will agree.
