Apple has seeded the final watchOS 5.1 build for everyone out there. You can grab the update over the air and we’ll show you how.

watchOS 5.1 Final Released for Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 and Series 4 Devices

If you’ve been waiting for a new watchOS update then you will be pleased to learn that watchOS 5.1 final is now available for download. This is the complete changelog of the update:

With that out of the way, you can download the new update over the air if you have a Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 or Series 4 Apple Watch. The update is not available for the original Apple Watch model since watchOS 5 is not supported on the device.

If you want to update your supported device right now, first of all make sure you are connected to a WiFi network. Now place your Apple Watch on its magnetic charger and launch the Watch app on your iPhone. Over here, just navigate to General > Software Update. As soon as the watchOS 5.1 becomes available for download, tap on Download and Install. The download process will begin immediately. Keep in mind that the entire process may take a while. Therefore it is suggested that you keep your Apple Watch on its charger at all times and your iPhone closely. I’ll also suggest that you keep your iPhone on charge as well during the period of installation. Once the installation is complete, you can remove the Apple Watch from its charger and start using it as you normally would.

watchOS 5.1 might not be feature-packed as iOS 12.1, but it’s a nice little maintenance update for Apple Watch users out there, ensuring things run as smoothly as possible for you on a daily basis. Is this a recommended update? Yes, it is.

If you are extremely reluctant when it comes to upgrading to watchOS 5.1 then do keep one thing in mind: once you do update there is no way you can downgrade back to the previous build since there is no way of interfacing the Apple Watch with a PC or Mac for the downgrade process. But still, give that this is a bug fix and performance enhancing release therefore it’s the right choice to make the plunge towards the latest update right now.
