Website MP1st reports that a currently unannounced free-to-play co-op action RPG based on The Witcher is in development for PC and mobile devices. Their source revealed that the game's story is set in the year 1230, when Geralt of Rivia was still a young witcher. Players would reportedly be able to create their own Witcher for the first time in the series, including things like gender and appearance customization.
In terms of gameplay, the game will predictably send players on missions to eliminate monsters in various settings that fans of the series have come to anticipate, including shadowy forests, lively villages, and eerie ruins. The combat mechanics will be powered by a skill-based system, allowing you to select abilities from various Witcher schools and customize the moveset through the mastery of Signs and potion brewing. The combat system of this mysterious The Witcher game is reportedly designed to reward player skill through precise timing in blocks, dodges, parries, and executions.
MP1st muses that this sounds fairly similar to the elusive Project Sirius, the announced The Witcher multiplayer game in development at Molasses Flood, previously known for The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow and acquired by CD Projekt RED in October 2021. However, the fact that this project seemingly skips consoles doesn't quite track with Sirius (which, by the way, was rebooted in 2023), so it could be something else. MP1st points to a CD Projekt RED partnership with Scopely, the American mobile developer known for games like Monopoly GO!, Stumble Guys, and Star Trek: Fleet Command.
This won't be the first The Witcher mobile game, anyway. CD Projekt RED already tried with Spokko's augmented reality game The Witcher: Monster Slayer (which got shut down in late 2022) and Roach Race, as well as ports of GWENT and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. No game really caught on, though, which is why they're trying again.
Meanwhile, The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past expansion is scheduled for next year, and development of The Witcher 4 continues at full speed.
