Following months of rumors and speculation, it was finally confirmed back in May that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would indeed get a new expansion in 2027 ahead of The Witcher 4. A few months after the announcement by CD Projekt Red and co-developer Fool's Theory, we will finally see more of what will rival Blood and Wine and Phantom Liberty's scope in late August, as it will be fully revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live hosted by Geoff Keighley.
"Our Path to Gamescom 2026 starts with Opening Night Live. On August 25, catch a glimpse of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past during the show," reads the official announcement shared on X. As a reminder, Opening Night Live will feature presentation details across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, taking place on August 25 at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 8pm CEST.
The announcement was unsurprisingly met with enthusiasm from the many fans of the series, who cannot wait to return to the Continent for what will possibly be the last adventure of Geralt of Rivia before passing the torch to Ciri, who will be the main character in the next main entry in the series, The Witcher 4.
However, not every fan of The Witcher 3 is happy. "Switch 2 edition please and I'm here day 1. Cyberpunk 2077 was amazing on Switch 2, it's time for The Witcher 3 to shine on it," said @YpseyeMJay on X. This sentiment is echoed by quite a few users, who are rightly feeling worried about the lack of news of a possible port to the Nintendo Switch 2, especially considering how the system should be more than capable of running the game fairly well, looking at what CD Projekt Red achieved with the Cyberpunk 2077 port.
An official announcement of the port during Opening Night Live would make a ton of sense, so hopefully August 25 will be a day when all fans of The Witcher 3 will rejoice.
