Apple iPhone Trade in canceled in email

Apple recently sent an email to members of its iPhone Upgrade Program members that their iPhone trade-in has been canceled. While the email had little heft to it, given the circumstances, we presumed that the email was an error on Apple's part. However, there is now an update to the story, as the company has sent another email to the same members, asking them to disregard their previous email.

Apple asks customers to disregard their previous email that canceled their iPhone trade-in

Initially, Apple's email stated to customers that it did not receive the iPhone for trade-in, however, this was not the case as users had submitted their devices months ago. Some users handed their iPhones over to Apple physically, which further pointed out that the fault could rest at Apple's end. Apple's email blatantly stated, "Because you didn't trade in your iPhone, we are unable to complete the trade-in process" (via MacRumors).

However, the email was not the end of it as users also reported that their Apple Store app also showed their trade-in as canceled. This means that there appears to be an issue with the entire system and that the emails were not a mistake but a glitch. Users have also reported their concerns on Reddit and X, highlighting the issue and the email that canceled their trade-in process.

While it was a system glitch, Apple has taken note of the situation and has issued a statement, asking users to disregard their previous email. Apple states that the email was sent erroneously and those who received it should not take any action on it. Later on, the company sent another email to affected customers, stating that users should dismiss the previous email. However, the company failed to provide a reason for the glitch and if it was a system-wide error.

If you are one of the people who received the email that their iPhone trade-in has been canceled, we would advise you to update and refresh the status of the process. Potentially, Apple would have fixed the 'canceled' error in the Apple Store app as well. Additionally, if you are planning to trade in your iPhone but are reluctant to do so due to the issue, you can safely resume and hand over your iPhone to Apple.

Apple will announce the new iPhone 16 models later this year, and if it suits your preferences, you can trade in your current iPhone right now. You do have the option to trade in your iPhone closer to the launch as well if you want to upgrade to the latest. We will keep you posted on the story, so do stick around.
