The prices of AMD's Ryzen CPUs have increased by more than 50%, signaling a panic in the DIY market amid heightened AI demand.
Japanese Users Are Paying Up To 57% More For AMD Ryzen CPUs As The AI-Related Price Bumps Continue
In a report published by PC Watch, it is stated that the Japanese DIY market is seeing a huge surge in hardware prices. While DRAM and GPU prices are way above their original rates, the next component that is being affected is the CPU.
The report lists several AMD Ryzen CPUs, mainly the new Ryzen 9000 parts, seeing over 50% price bumps within this month. The prices of the most affected chips are listed below:
- Ryzen 7 9700X - 59,800 Yen (+57.4% Increase)
- Ryzen 9 9900X - 79,500 Yen (+37.1% Increase)
- Ryzen 5 9600X - 44,480 Yen (+22.6% Increase)
- Ryzen 7 9800X3D - 76,800 Yen (+21.8% Increase)
- Ryzen 9 9900X3D - 109,400 Yen (+21.8% Increase)
- Ryzen 9 9950X3D - 134,800 Yen (+20.1% Increase)
- Ryzen 9 9950X - 109,196 Yen (+18.0% Increase)
- Ryzen 7 9850X3D - 76,800 Yen (+5.6% Increase)
From the Ryzen 9000 lineup, the majority of SKUs are seeing over 20% price bumps, with some going beyond 30%, and the 9700X breaking past the 50% barrier. None of the Ryzen 9000 CPUs is currently available below MSRP.

Just for comparison, the Ryzen 7 9700X has an MSRP of $299 but in the US but costs $70 higher in Japan. That includes the Japanese VAT.
- Ryzen 7 7800X3D - 67,800 Yen (+41.3% Increase)
- Ryzen 5 8600G - 36,280 Yen (+31.9% Increase)
- Ryzen 5 7600 - 35,979 Yen (+29.4% Increase)
- Ryzen 5 8500G - 28,580 Yen (+26.6% Increase)
- Ryzen 5 5600GT - 26,500 Yen (+18.9% Increase)
- Ryzen 5 5700X - 32,800 Yen (+10.1% Increase)
Even older AMD Ryzen CPUs aren't safe, with the Ryzen 7000 lineup also seeing some significant price increases. The ever-popular 7800X3D is currently priced 41.3% higher, while the entry-level Ryzen 5 7600 is retailing at prices almost 30% higher than before.
AM4 CPUs also saw price bumps, though not as aggressive as the AM5 processors. These chips are currently priced 5-10% higher than their previous prices.

Yesterday, we covered a report that highlighted upcoming price adjustments for Intel and AMD CPUs. As per the details, consumer CPU prices are expected to witness a 10% price increase in the first half of 2026, with another bump expected in the coming months. The cumulative price increase for AMD's CPU family for consumers, which includes Ryzen, Ryzen AI, and Ryzen AI MAX, is expected to be around 16-17 percent.
Currently, we aren't seeing any major price bumps in the US or other regions for now, but Asian markets do provide an early glimpse of what to expect in terms of prices globally. The price trend takes a few weeks to tell if the price increase was a panic move by the retailers or if there's really bad news coming for the global consumer audiences.
