AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D Dragon Range Gaming CPU Could Be Coming To More Laptops Soon 1

AMD's fastest gaming CPU for laptops, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D "Dragon Range" is expected to come to more platforms soon.

AMD To Extend Its Gaming Lead Across Several Laptops With 3D V-Cache Boosted Ryzen 9 7945HX3D "Dragon Range" CPU

Last month, AMD and ASUS joined hands to launch the first laptop featuring the brand new Ryzen 9 7945HX3D CPU-powered design within the ROG SCAR 17 X3D. This laptop not only offered a total of 16 Zen 4 cores but also was the first to feature the 3D V-cache technology which is part of the latest Dragon Range" family.

But since launch, the ASUS SCAR 17 X3D has been the only laptop offering that comes with this CPU option. However, that might change soon as Golden Pig Upgrade (Bilibili) reports that AMD plans to bring the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D to more laptops either by the end of this year or early next year.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D packs a 16-core and 32-thread configuration that is implemented in a dual CCD layout, reminiscent of the Raphael Zen 4 desktop CPUs. Each CCD itself carries 32 MB of L3 cache for a total pool of 64 MB but one of these CCDs comes with a 3D V-cache stack of 64.0 MB which increases the total pool to 128 MB. The CPU features a base clock speed of 2.3 GHz which is 200 MHz lower than the Ryzen 9 7945HX but the boost frequency remains the same at 5.4 GHz. It operates at a TDP of 55W+.

A 3D V-Cache boosted CPU can bring some massive performance gains on laptop platforms which are largely power-constrained. Clock speeds alone result in a huge power draw whereas the extra V-Cache can offer more speed up versus a clock speed bump in a more efficient way. AMD touted over 50% performance increase in gaming with its new 3D V-Cache technology for the 7945HX3D & we can't wait to see it in action on more laptops, especially if there are more cost-effective options.

Companies such as Minisforum have already announced plans to implement the AMD Ryzen 9 CPU within its upcoming Mini-ITX motherboard options so we can expect more companies to follow suit on those.
