AMD Officially Outs the Radeon HD 7900M Series Mobile GPUs

AMD has officially launched its latest HD 7900M Series mobile discrete graphics processing unit "HD 7970M". Based on the Cayman core architecture, HD 7970M features the latest 28nm design providing the best quality visuals for gaming laptops.

The Radeon HD 7970M is the laptop equivalent of the HD 7870 (desktop) although features slightly decrease clock frequencies. Complete specifications below:

  • 1280 Graphics CoreNext stream processors
  • 80 TMUs
  • 32 ROPs
  • 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface
  • 2GB Memory buffer

The core clock is maintained at 850 MHz and memory clock at 1200 MHz (4.80 GHz GDDR5 effective) which amounts to a total memory bandwidth of 153.6 GB/s. The HD 7970M features the AMD ZeroCore technology and AMD Enduro Technology which drops the power consumption under 1W when switched to idle mode hence saving battery life.

AMD Radeon HD 7970M launches today and would be shipped from various laptop manufacturer's today.
