Xbox One X Will Always Download 4K Assets Regardless Of The Connected TV

Many upcoming Xbox One games, as well as several already released ones, will be getting Xbox One X support, and it seems like Microsoft will be doing things so that regular Xbox One and Xbox One S won't have to download extra data they will never be able to use with their consoles.

Speaking with Stevivor, a Microsoft rep confirmed today that only the Xbox One X will download 4K assets. The rep also added that these assets will be downloaded regardless of the connected TV.

Halo Infinite Campaign Analysis Shows Xbox One X Resolution Much Higher Than Xbox Series S

This means, regardless of the TV you are playing on, 4K assets will be downloaded to Xbox One X (if available) and the standard 1080p assets will be downloaded to an Xbox One S.

As 4K assets will increase download sizes considerably, like for Forza Motorsport 7, which will be a 100 GB download on Xbox One X, Microsoft revealed that developer tools to make downloads more efficient will be given to developers.

As part our developer readiness for Xbox One X, we have made available a feature which will give them significant flexibility when it comes to what gets installed on a user’s console. In addition to 4K specific assets, developers have options when it comes to language specific assets as well, which depending on the title, can drastically reduce the install footprint. This ability to intelligently install the best assets for each console and language are available on all Xbox One devices, and it will be up to the developer of the game to determine the specific implementation.

The Xbox One X console launches later this year in all regions.
