Wizards of the Coast has just signed a publishing deal with Giant Skull, a new game studio founded last March by former God of War III and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game director, Stig Asmussen.

As reported by GamesBeat, Wizards of the Coast will publish the Unreal Engine 5-based triple-A action-adventure game that Giant Skull had already been developing, which is now due to be set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons.

"Our talented and experienced team at Giant Skull is built on creativity and curiosity," Asmussen said in a statement. "Our goal is to craft a rich new Dungeons & Dragons universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace."

Wizards of the Coast president and head of digital gaming at Hasbro, John Hight, added, "Stig and the team at Giant Skull are exactly the type of exceptionally talented creators we want to work with, and I'm so happy to be reuniting with him on this new project. Worldbuilding and storytelling is in our DNA, and this collaboration reflects our evolution and commitment to our Playing to Win strategy, building a stronger presence in digital play."

This is the latest addition to the game projects that Wizards of the Coast has signed deals for, and the latest step in the company's plan to fulfill its goal of shipping 1-2 games per year. The D&D company currently has games on the way from Archetype Entertainment, Invoke Studios, and Atomic Arcade.

It's also supposed to have a game coming from its internal studio, Skeleton Key, though the status of that project is currently unclear after reports of the game being canceled circulated earlier this year from laid-off employees pointing to the project's cancellation as the reason they were let go. The studio could have a new project in the works, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Wizards of the Coast is also trying to figure out how to continue the Baldur's Gate series, which it is still committed to doing after Larian Studios decided to move on from its deal with Wizards of the Coast to make something new.
