Archetype Entertainment has released a new, albeit short, gameplay trailer of its Mass Effect-inspired action RPG EXODUS.

Today, Archetype Entertainment, the Texas-based studio founded by former BioWare employees and owned by Wizards of the Coast, released a new gameplay trailer of its debut game, EXODUS.

The short trailer combines three clips:

  1. In the first one, protagonist Jun is busy with companions Tom and Elise in a live combat encounter on the outskirts of Lyonesse. The developers noted that this is the kind of fight where positioning matters and relying on your companions can mean the difference between life and death.
  2. In the second clip, the party has moved up to a space tower in Lyonesse. Things slow down a bit here to show what a mission can feel like between combat. Archetype says that traversal in EXODUS has its own rhythm. Players can move quickly, but pausing and taking in the scale of the world around can be worthwhile. Here, we also take a look at the Railclaw, a grappling hook that can be used to gain a better vantage point and traverse hostile terrain more quickly. The press release says it's a core piece of a Traveler's toolkit, so hopefully it won't be long in the game before Jun can unlock it.
  3. In the final clip, Jun and the group step into an ancient shrine on Khonsu. Towering architecture rises overhead, unmistakably Celestial in its design, a tease of what might be an important part of a mission.

Archetype has also provided a rough roadmap of the news and information that will be shared on EXODUS ahead of the planned early 2027 launch. From now through early Summer, more short gameplay clips will be released to showcase combat encounters, traversal, interactions, and environments.

This summer, the team will host a longer gameplay showcase featuring continuous, moment-to-moment footage, including combat, conversations, in-mission choices, and more. In the final stretch toward the release date, there will be focused deep dive spotlights on companions and romance, the RPG hub of Persepolis, choices and consequences, roleplaying mechanics, and the key Time Dilation mechanics.

Hasbro is betting heavily on this new IP, with CEO Chris Cocks being particularly bullish about it. Mass Effect fans certainly hope it turns out well, although there's another upcoming sci-fi RPG that is deliberately inspired by BioWare's masterpiece: Owlcat's The Expanse: Osiris Reborn.
