This afternoon, Polish developer Rebel Wolves released the second part of the gameplay overview of their debut game, The Blood of Dawnwalker.

The video offers nearly thirty minutes of new gameplay footage, although I should rather say new for the public. This is actually the same footage that press and content creators were shown behind closed doors at Gamescom 2025, when we also had the chance to interview Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz.

The developers demonstrated how different a game's quest can be, depending on whether the player approaches the mission during the day or at night, owing to the peculiar nature of the main character, the titular Dawnwalker Coen, who is half-man, half-vampire. For example, in this instance, Coen can easily stroll into the cathedral by day, whereas approaching during the night requires the use of vampiric traversal powers like Planeshift and Shadowstep.

Different exploration paths are available, but Coen himself also sees his vampiric abilities come to life after the sun is down. Even regular sword swings (players can now choose between using vampire claws or swords as a vampire) are faster when in vampire form compared to the human form. This is all part of the 'narrative sandbox' that the developers are pushing as the main distinguishing feature of The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Rebel Wolves, a studio formed out of ex CD Projekt RED who worked on The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, said that several recent improvements were introduced to the game following user feedback gathered after the previous trailers. A new camera option places the view further away from the character, and players can now adjust the camera separately for combat and exploration.

The Active Abilities menu no longer pauses gameplay when making a selection. Furthermore, all ability choices now occur in real-time, delivering a more fluid and immersive combat experience. To that end, Rebel Wolves also improved combat pacing and animations.

The open world third-person action roleplaying game The Blood of Dawnwalker is still set for a generic 2026 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. With Grand Theft Auto VI poised to suck the attention out of the industry in November 2026, though, it's fair to expect as many developers wanting to release before that date.
