Polish developer Rebel Wolves has revealed today that their debut game, the action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, is officially gold. That means the physical disc is being printed, though of course, in this day and age, the studio will continue to work on day-one patches and the like up to the launch date of September 3. I suppose this saying will have to be updated if Sony's planned end of PlayStation disc sales from January 2028 goes ahead.
Anyway, the gold status effectively confirms there will be no delays. The studio worked quite swiftly on its debut game; Rebel Wolves was announced to the public in 2022, received funding from NetEase, and later partnered with Bandai Namco as the publisher of The Blood of Dawnwalker.
The game is an open-world dark fantasy action RPG built on Unreal Engine 5 and set in a supernatural 14th-century Europe during the turmoil of war and the Black Death. Players will step into the role of Coen, a Dawnwalker caught between humanity and vampirism, which means he operates with strengths and weaknesses from both sides rather than belonging fully to either one. Coen must save his family (within thirty days) while navigating a region ruled by vampires, and his story is shaped by the player's choices, the secrets they uncover, and the alliances they form.
What makes The Blood of Dawnwalker stand out is that it doesn't really have main or secondary quests, only the aforementioned key objective of saving the family. How the players go about it is entirely their own business, and they might even storm the castle of the main antagonist, Brencis, just after the prologue, if they're brave enough.
