CAPCOM successfully misled Summer Game Fest 2026 viewers for the first minute or so of the Resident Evil Veronica trailer, which was in first-person view and didn't seem at all like the long-awaited Code Veronica remake.

Given that Resident Evil Requiem introduced the option to choose between first-person and third-person, though, fans started wondering if this would be possible in Veronica as well. CAPCOM insider Dusk Golem, however, said this game is third-person only, just like the Resident Evil 4 remake.

In a follow-up question, Dusk Golem also commented on the differences between the original Code Veronica and this remake:

They didn't cut; it's just moved. Be prepared for a LOT of things to be shifted around, remixed, reimagined, moved, etc.

CAPCOM's official description of Resident Evil: Veronica mentions only that players will embark on a desperate escape through the isolated, zombie-filled Rockfort Island. However, the original title also featured a substantial part in Antarctica. The official description focusing only on Rockfort Island could mean a few things: it might just be early marketing keeping things vague to avoid spoilers, the remake might restructure or trim the Antarctica section, or they may simply be leading with the more iconic setting.

What we know for sure is that Claire Redfield heads to Paris to infiltrate an Umbrella Corporation facility and rescue her brother Chris. However, what awaits her is not a reunion with her brother but the Umbrella Special Forces unit responsible for the incident, which captures Claire and transports her to Rockfort Island.

Set mere months after the events of Resident Evil 2, it will also help set up the events of later entries in the RE timeline. On the gameplay front, CAPCOM only said that it will be "modernized", presumably borrowing mechanics from recent titles like RE4 Remake and Requiem. The game will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and Nintendo Switch 2.
