Leon S. Kennedy is rumored to be the second protagonist of the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, but until CAPCOM confirms his presence in the next entry in the series, anything seen or heard online should not be believed, according to the game's producer.
In a new interview with Stevivor, Producer Masato Kumazawa addressed the rumors that have been circulating online for a few months, highlighting how any supposed evidence is the result of detective work from players and should not be taken at face value.
"Considering that now is the time when AI [can be used to make] videos and photos, we don’t know what’s right or what’s wrong. It’s just that players are free to believe what they would like to believe; what I’d like to tell is that, please, unless it’s officially released from Capcom, we can’t give you any confirmation," Kumazawa-san added. Likewise, the image going around showing Leon with an eye patch, and mentions of an extra DLC costume for the character are all fake, the producer concluded. However, Kumazawa-san didn't not deny the character isn't in, so there's still hope he is as rumored and speculated.
The Resident Evil Requiem producer also commented on the ability to switch between first- and third-person views, as well as the reasoning behind it.
Reportedly, the developer received lots of feedback from players after the release of the third-person view mode for Resident Evil Village, so much so that Kumazawa-san decided to let players choose which one they prefer between first and third-person view. In addition, the implementation of the third-person view allowed the team to "sort of ease the horror", as many players thought that Resident Evil VII Biohazard was a little too scary with the first-person view only.
Unfortunately, it seems ike fans of the series will have to wait until February 2026 to get their first taste of Resident Evil Requiem.
"So, in terms of a demo play, we actually have no plan for one at the stage. None at all. We just want to focus on finishing off the game," Kumazawa-san said in regards to a playable demo. With the game launching in a little over three months, chances are slim that plans may change, but with every recent entry in the series getting a demo before launch, there's still the chance for one to launch for Resident Evil Requiem as well.
While I would definitely love to see Leon in Resident Evil Requiem, the idea of having the vulnarable Grace as the only protagonist would be very intriguing, to say the least. When I tried the game a few months ago during Gamescom, I really appreciated what CAPCOM has done with the character, and the feeling of helplessness that permeated the demo. If this were also to permeate the combat mechanics, I think it would make for a really different experience.
