Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to continue CAPCOM's incredible streak in 2026, and the Japanese publisher showed more of its upcoming PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 game during its latest Spotlight showcase. The new footage suggests that the low enemy aggression seen in the playable demo may have been addressed, but some may be disappointed to learn that the game is not launching earlier than anticipated.
During the segment focused on the first new entry in the series since 2006's Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, Director Nihei Satoru introduced the game's story and setting with a quick overview detailing main character Miyamoto Musashi, his struggles against the Genma demons and Sasaki Ganryu set in a dark fantasy rendition of Kyoto and some of its most iconic locations like the Kiyomizu-dera and Yasui Kompiragu temples, and the supporting cast of characters.
While the Onimusha: Way of the Sword overview didn't show anything truly new, the introduction of the new Genma Dohatsu-ten did. Besides showing off the great enemy design, the new footage suggests that the low enemy aggression of the demo may have been competently addressed, as the Genma launches against Musashi with a flurry of slashes as soon as it appears. Unfortunately, the new footage is often cut, so there's no way to say for certain if the issue has indeed been addressed, but there's at least a solid reason to be hopeful.
Unfortunately, the Onimusha: Way of the Sword showcase ended with confirmation that the game is launching as scheduled on September 25, and not on September 4, as retailer listings suggested. As such, we will indeed see the game clash with Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall in one of the most packed Septembers in a long, long time.
