Capcom's free Resident Evil Requiem bonus mode "LEON MUST DIE FOREVER" is out now and features roguelike twists and exclusive abilities.

As teased last week, CAPCOM has dropped the free Resident Evil Requiem mini-game this morning; it's called LEON MUST DIE FOREVER.

This new game mode becomes available once players have completed the main story of Resident Evil Requiem, featuring the non-stop combat action that players have come to know and love from legendary agent Leon S. Kennedy. In LEON MUST DIE FOREVER, players must fight their way through areas previously visited during the campaign, defeating the final boss with stronger enemy variants, five increasingly difficult ranks, and a race against the clock. Defeating enemies fills Leon's enhancement gauge and unlocks his “enhancer abilities”, which are exclusive to this game mode.

The order and progression of each area, along with the options for Leon's 'enhancer abilities', differ in each playthrough, increasing the mode's replayability. Alongside the release of this mode, CAPCOM has shared several additional announcements:

  • Various bug fixes have been implemented in Resident Evil Requiem across platforms.
  • PC support has been added for the DualSense wireless controller's adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and motion sensor features.
  • All-new “LEON MUST DIE FOREVER” merchandise, including T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies, is now available on Amazon Japan.
  • The first-ever Resident Evil amiibo figures featuring the main characters from Resident Evil Requiem, Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy, are released on 30 July.

A recent datamine revealed that Chapter 2 wasn't the only cut made by CAPCOM to the final version of the game. The removed content includes:

  • A merchant-type character and a dedicated weapon customization screen — a clear nod to RE4-style systems
  • Murder investigation tutorials: a detective/investigation layer for Grace's sections that would have significantly expanded her gameplay
  • Side missions reminiscent of RE4's optional quests
  • A bike repair tutorial, likely tied to Leon's motorcycle, which appears in the final game near the Raccoon City Police Department
  • A shared map showing both Leon and Grace simultaneously, arguably the most significant cut, implying a much more interconnected dual narrative was originally planned
  • Leon using Grace's Blood Collector to upgrade skills and craft items, a cross-character resource sharing system that would have deeply tied the two storylines together
  • An "overdose" mechanic tied to Leon's abilities
  • A seizure mechanic for Leon on Professional difficulty

Resident Evil Requiem will receive an official expansion later this year, though CAPCOM has yet to share any details about it.
