Razer Phone’s Camera Performance To Improve With Forthcoming Software Upgrades
Nextbit's acquisition by Razer earlier this year resulted in the first-ever smartphone by Razer. Marketed as the "gamer phone", the device comes with a 120Hz IGZO LCD panel, Snapdragon 835 SoC, 8GB of RAM, and 64GB storage. On the software front, the device runs near-stock Android 7.1 Nougat and is backed by a 4000 mAh battery. The design of the smartphone looks inspired by the Nextbit Robin, which was launched last year for $700.
However, regardless of these solid specifications, the latest Razer phone has one shortcoming, and that is its camera performance. Many reviewers have pointed out that the phone's camera performance is disappointing. Although the Razer phone's camera hardware looks promising on the paper, the software does not do justice. This shortcoming becomes more visible when camera samples of Razer phone are compared with other phones in the same price segment such as the Galaxy S8 and HTC U11.
Razer has been keeping a close watch on the reviews and has now promised that the camera shortcomings will be cured in the upcoming software updates. Today, Razer’s CEO, Mr. Min-Liang Tan gave a statement regarding the device's camera performance. According to the statement posted by Tan on Facebook, Razer's software team has been working on bringing improvements to the camera app. The software update will improve elements like low light performance, shutter speed, and more.
Expected features to come with the update
Moreover, the upcoming software update will also bring some new features to the camera app. The future software update for the camera app will also bring the insta-zoom feature, which will enable users to switch to optical zoom with the help of telephoto lens in a jiffy. Other new features coming to the camera app are portrait mode, 60fps video recording, and 4x slo-mo video recording.
Software updates can bring significant improvement in camera performance
As per the expectations, these new features in the camera app may come alongside the Android Oreo update. This update is expected to debut in Q1 2018, and Razer's software team is also investigating for bringing more improvements. Camera performance on a smartphone can get better with significant software upgrade as we have seen with Google Camera HDR+ port. So, Razer phone's camera performance can get better with the upcoming software update.
