The PS4 is now in the final phase of its life cycle, according to PlayStation President John Kodera.

That’s what Sony’s fresh PlayStation CEO told investors during Sony’s Investor Relations Day 2018, as translated by Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki.

Sony released the PlayStation 4 back in November 2013, and after 5 years, its now entering its final stage in its life cycle. “PS4 is entering the final phase of its life cycle, which would have a negative impact to the unit, but recurring revenue via membership services etc should cushion some of that”, Kodera told investors as translated by Mochizuki.

John Kodera also had something to say about releasing more PlayStation first-party exclusives. “Beefing up first-party titles wouldn’t just mean more new IPs”, Kodera said (translated by Mochizuki). “Strategy includes franchising successful IPs and refreshing existing IPs.”
